Thailand

Thailand, the land of smiles, in the heart of South East Asia, is unique in its culture, delicious food, beautiful beaches and amazing underwater world. After a short visit to Bangkok we recommend to visit the islands in the gulf of Thailand, Koh Samui, Koh Phangan and of course amazing Koh Tao the paradise for divers and backpackers. It is also recommended to make a tour in one of the great national parks in Thailand. For example Khao Sok National Park and its lakes and caves. At the end of your trip you should visit the Andaman Sea and underwater world. Easily accessible from Khao Lak through liveaboards. ...

... Just Amazing.

Climate

Thailand has a tropical climate. Temperatures vary between 30 and 35 degrees Celsius. In general the raining season is from May to October.  Exceptions are the southern islands Koh Tao, Koh Samui and Koh Phanang located in the gulf of Thailand.  Here there is only one month raining season, also called monsoon, which is November. At the Andaman Sea for example Khao Lak the dry season starts around end of November and continues until end of April.

Thai Food and Drinks

Thai food is one if the best in the world and you are free to try everything. Personal I can recommend the following meals:

  • Hot spicy Thai salads like papaya , beef, pork or seafood salad.
  • Fried basil leafs with beef or chicken, fried cashew nuts with beef or chicken and of course the usual fried rice and noodle meals.
  • All kinds of curries like green, red or massaman curry need to be tasted.

For drinks you should enjoy a coconut or any of the various fruit shakes.

Visa

In the moment you get an allowance of 30 days to travel in Thailand if you arrive by plane. Of course you need a passport that is at least 6 more months valid. If you arrive by land you will only get 14 days. Best is to get a tourist visa for 2 month at your home country, which can be extended an additional 30 days in Thailand. The visa conditions are subject to change sometimes, so check them before you fly to Thailand.  Visa conditions can differ for different nationalities.

How to get there

Most travelers fly to Bangkok and stay there for about two days and then continue their travel south to the amazing islands in the gulf of Thailand. AirAsia offers cheap flights around Asia and also from London. AirBerlin and Qatar Airways are good options for flights from Europe. Of course there are   many other airlines that are good as well and are flying frequently to Thailand.
