Koh Tao

Photo der Insel Koh Tao
Amazing Koh Tao.

The small tropical island Koh Tao has 21 square meters and is just beautiful with a relaxed atmosphere. It is located in the Gulf of Thailand. Based on an excellent underwater world and great reefs around the island, Koh tao is also known as paradise for divers. A great place to learn diving and also great for advanced divers. Besides diving you can follow activities like free climbing, snorkeling, kayaking, sightseeing, chilling or just explore the island, its jungles and paradised beaches. Far away from mass tourism.

Sairee Beach

Sairee Beach

In Sairee Beach are most of the accommodations and diving schools on the island. With it’s long beach and tasteful restaurants it’s probably the best place to stay on Koh Tao, before exploring the rest of the island. Also the nightlife of Koh Tao is located here.

Mae Haad

All ferries from the mainland and the other islands will arrive in Mae Haad. Mae Haad has many shopping possibilities and dive equipment shops like Dive Supply, All4Diving and Planet Scuba are located here.  Even as there are lots of rooms available in Mae Haad, I not recommend staying here. Better rent a motorbike at Lederhosenbikes and make your way down to Sairee Beach.

Chalok Ban Khao

Chalok Ban Khao

Chalok Ban Khao is a quiet and relaxed village in Koh Tao. Here are also some diving schools located. Recommended is Alvaro diving and the chilled out Babaloo Bar.

Aow Leuk

Aow Leuk

Aow Leuk is the nicest beach in Koh Tao and is excellent for daytrips. The last part of the street is quiet adventurous and there for it is recommended to walk the last part of the way. Often you can spot friendly black tip sharks while snorkeling here.

Tanote Bay

Nice beach with an adventureous way to get there. Nice for snorkeling and cliff jumping. Often friendly black tip sharks are spotted here while snorkeling.

Mango Bay

Mango Bay is also a small nice beach with adventureous way to get there. Probably best to take a taxi boat to get there.

Hin Wong Bay

Hin Wong Bay

Hin Wong Bay is a relaxed little bay with interesting rock formations and view points.

Leam Thien

Leam Thin is only accessible by taxi boat even if there is some kind of extremely adventurous road or way to it. Nice little bay away from the crowds.

Koh Nang Nuan

Is a small island in front of Koh Tao with a beautiful beach and excellent spots for snorkeling. Nang Nuan is a must for a daytrip. On the island itself is a resort and a diving school located.

How to get there

The easiest way is to fly from Bangkok to Koh Samui and take the ferry over to Koh Tao. Additionally night trains with sleeper are recommended to get to Chumphon and then take the ferry over to Koh Tao.  Of course are bus and ferry joint tickets another option and probably the cheapest way to get to Koh Tao. If you are coming from the south then you can also take a night boat from Suratthani to Koh Tao.
